In October 2025, the FDA warned the public about an outbreak of Salmonella illnesses from moringa leaf powder in Member’s Mark Super Greens and other dietary supplements that are commonly used to make “green smoothies.”
Sam’s Club Recalls Members Mark Super Greens Powder
Sam’s Club recalled all Member’s Mark® Super Greens Powder dietary supplements, regardless of lot codes and best-by/use-before dates, after a Salmonella outbreak.
What Happened?
Health officials in Virginia collected an open sample of moringa leaf powder from a sick person’s home. This sample tested positive for Salmonella. Further testing confirmed that this strain matched the outbreak strain of Salmonella that is causing illnesses.
Health officials in Michigan also tested an open sample of Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder from a sick person’s home. The sample tested positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella.
FDA Finds Source of Moringa Leaf Salmonella Outbreak
The FDA conducted an traceback investigation, and confirmed that all of the illnesses in this outbreak can be linked to moringa leaf powder:
“A single lot of organic moringa leaf powder (lot code VFD/ORG/MORP/L/24 with the best by date (BBD) of November 2027) from Vallon Farm Direct of India can explain all illnesses included in the traceback investigation.”
Recalls May Expand To Include More Products
Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder is just one of many dietary supplements that used this moringa leaf powder ingredient. In interviews with health officials, 6 people got sick after eating Super Greens Powder, but at least 3 people got sick from other products.
What is Super Greens Powder?
The recall involves all Member’s Mark® Super Greens Powder that was sold at Sam’s Club stores nationwide and online. Super Greens Powder is a dietary supplement that is used to prepare “green superfood smoothies.” Super Greens is a green powder consisting of moringa leaf powder and other ingredients in a round plastic container.
How Many People Got Sick?
The moringa leaf powder ingredient in Super Greens Powder and other products has been linked to a Salmonella outbreak with 11 illnesses, including 3 hospitalizations. No deaths were reported.
According to the CDC Outbreak Investigation, the Salmonella outbreak has been reported in 7 states since May 2025.
Health officials cautioned: “This outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses, and the true number of sick people is likely much higher than the number reported.”
The states where illnesses have been reported include:
- Florida
- Kansas
- Michigan
- North Carolina
- New York
- South Carolina
- Virginia
What Should I Do?
Anyone who ate powdered supplements containing moringa leaf powder should contact a healthcare professional if they develop severe symptoms of a Salmonella infection.
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
- Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
- Bloody diarrhea
- So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
- Signs of dehydration, such as:
- Not peeing much
- Dry mouth and throat
- Feeling Dizzy when standing up
