Nordic Naturals Recalls Baby Vitamin D3 Drops for Health Hazard

In February 2024, Nordic Naturals recalled one lot of Baby’s Vitamin D3 Liquid because it may contain a “super potent dose” of D3 that poses a health hazard.

What is the Problem?

No injuries were reported, but babies who are given far too much D3 could fail to thrive and develop other severe health problems. According to the FDA warning:

“Prolonged use of the recalled Baby’s Vitamin D3 Liquid could potentially lead to elevated vitamin D levels, resulting in vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, frequent urination, and inability to thrive in infants.”

How To Identify Recalled Vitamin D3 Drops

The recall involves bottles and droppers of Baby’s Vitamin D3 Liquid manufactured by Nordic Naturals, which were sold in 0.76 fl. oz. (22.5 mL) bottles, each containing 400 IU (10mcg) Vitamin D3.

The recalled Lot Number is 234909, with an expiration date of December 2025. They were packaged in boxes containing one bottle and one dropper for dosage, under SKU RUS-02733.

Nordic Naturals estimates that 3,800 bottles of the product were recalled, of which 20% were returned by stores before they were sold.

What is Baby Vitamin D3?

Nordic Naturals advertised their Baby Vitamin D3 drops for “bone and immune system health, and may help support normal sleep rhythms.” Pediatricians also commonly recommend that babies under 12 months receive 400 IU of Vitamin D every day to prevent vitamin deficiencies.

What Should I Do?

Babies who were given D3 from a recalled batch of Nordic Naturals Baby’s Vitamin D3 drops may need to be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Nordic Naturals urges parents and caregivers to check their baby’s Vitamin D3 drops to see if it is being recalled. If so, the recalled product should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement.
