1st Lawsuit Filed Against Northeast Seafood Products
In October 2021, the first lawsuit was filed against Northeast Seafood Products by Corey S., a man who got food poisoning after eating halibut, cod and salmon he bought at Sprouts Farmers Market. After seeking medical attention for his symptoms, health officials confirmed that he was infected with Salmonella Thompson and was part of a large outbreak.
Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Northeast Seafood Products
On October 8, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Food Safety Alert for an outbreak of Salmonella that was linked to seafood, sushi and sushi rolls that were distributed to restaurants and grocery stores.
Where Was The Seafood Sold?
The recalled seafood products were distributed from May 2021 to October 7, 2021 to restaurants and Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts supermarkets in Colorado. Most of the seafood would have been sold out of their fresh seafood cases. It may have also been frozen, or sold in sushi and sushi rolls.
Consumers who bought raw, fresh, unpackaged seafood are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
How Many People Got Sick?
As of October 8, the outbreak has infected at least 102 people in 14 states, including 19 people who were hospitalized. At least 82 of the victims were residents of Colorado, or people who recently traveled to Colorado. In interviews, only 2 people did not live in or visit Colorado.

- Lane Snapper
- Tilapia
- All Natural Salmon Fillet
- Pacific Sole
- Farm Raised Striped Bass
