February 10, 2020 — Nuts ‘N More LLC of Rhode Island has issued a voluntary recall for Plain Peanut Spread after a finished product tested positive for Listeria.
In a recall notice posted on February 7, Nuts ‘N More reported that a routine test detected a “potential Listeria species” in a finished jar of Plain Peanut Spread. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Nuts ‘N More stopped the production and distribution of this product while health officials in Rhode Island and the company investigate.
The recall involves 4,143 jars of Plain Peanut Spread. It was sold in 16-ounce plastic jars with LOT PB91 and EXP 03/04/2021 on the lid.
Plain Peanut Spread was distributed to locations in Virginia, Arizona, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Alabama, and Florida, as well as Canada and the U.K.
Consumers who bought Nuts ‘N More Plain Peanut Spread Lot PB91 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Infections with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can potentially result in a serious, life-threatening illness, especially for young children, elderly adults, and people with vulnerable immune systems. Pregnant women may also suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening infection of a baby.
