Palmer Candy Recalls White-Coated Confections for Salmonella Risk
In May 2024, Palmer Candy expanded a recall for white-coated sweet confections, candy, and pretzels that may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The recall involves multiple brands.
The original recall was announced by Palmer Candy on May 5, 2024.
What Products Were Recalled?
The products include white-fudge coated pretzels, yogurt-coated pretzels, cookies, snack mixes, candy bark, patriotic pretzels and snack mixes, pretzel rods, cookies & cream snack mixes, and more.
United Supermarkets Warns Customers in Texas and New Mexico
United Supermarkets also warned customers in New Mexico and Texas about potential Salmonella contamination in Chocolate Caramel Corn and Candy Trays that were supplied by Palmer Candy. These items were available for purchase at Albertsons Market, Amigos, Market Street and United stores in New Mexico and Texas.
Where Were The Recalled Products Sold?
Palmer Candy’s recalled confectionary items were sold nationwide at Walmart, HyVee, Target, Dollar General, and other stores.
They were also sent to distributors in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The products were sold in a wide variety of packages and containers, including bags, pouches, tubs, and plastic clamshell containers.
Did Anyone Get Sick?
No illnesses were reported at the time of the recall. Instead, Palmer Candy was notified of potential Salmonella contamination by a supplier that manufactures the white liquid coating.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning. The infections are most dangerous for young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people who are infected with Salmonella may develop a fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
