Playworld Recalls Teeter Tunnels After 2 Serious Injuries
In May 2025, the playground company Playworld recalled hundreds of Unity Teeter Tunnels after 2 children were seriously injured when they fell under the seesaw and were crushed by the plank.
One boy broke his leg and a girl suffered liver damage when they fell under the seesaw and the end of the plank landed on them.
According to the recall warning from Playworld:
“If a child accidentally falls underneath the Unity Teeter Tunnel, the end of the seesaw plank can land on them, posing a risk of serious injury and a crush hazard.”
What Happened?
Two children were seriously injured, including a boy who broke his leg in multiple places, and a girl who suffered a liver laceration, when they fell under the Unity Teeter Tunnel and the end of the seesaw plank landed on them.
According to the recall: “One child sustained a liver laceration when the end of the seesaw plank landed on her abdomen and the second child suffered fractures to his right tibia and right fibula when the end of the seesaw plank landed on him.”
What Are Unity Teeter Tunnels?
Unity Teeter Tunnels are very similar to classic playground toys, also called “seesaws” or “teeter totters,” but with a tunnel in the middle of the plank that does not move. Multiple children can sit, stand, or lay down on the moving parts of the seesaw. Children can also crawl through the tunnel or climb on top. The toy is designed to encourage cooperation, communication, and balance, according to Playworld.
How To Identify Recalled Teeter Tunnels
Playworld recalled about 329 teeter tunnels that were installed on playgrounds nationwide between 2014 and 2025.
The recalled teeter tunnels have part numbers ZZXX0182, ZZXX0182S, ZZXX0192 and ZZXX0192S. This number appears on the original purchase order and on the installation instructions.
The recall involves two models of Unity Teeter Tunnels, with slight design differences. To see pictures of the recalled products or get more information, visit the Playworld Teeter Tunnel Recall website at: https://playworld.com/recall-information/.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled Unity Teeter Tunnels were sold nationwide by Playworld sales representatives and independent authorized retailers from October 2014 through March 2025 for between $13,450 and $13,600.
What Should I Do?
Playworld is urging customers to immediately stop allowing children to use the recalled teeter tunnels and place them out of service until they are repaired.
Customers can contact Playworld to schedule a free repair. Playworld will send a certified playground installer to each location to repair the unit.
