1.6 Million Cases of Randall Beans Recalled for Botulism Risk

In May 2021, Randall Foods Inc. recalled all lots of Randall Beans due to a manufacturing error that could result in under-processing, and food poisoning illnesses, including infections with Clostridium botulinum, the bacteria that causes botulism.

The recall involves 1.6 million cases that contain glass jars in various sizes, including 48-oz., 24-oz., and 15.4-oz. products. They were sold at many stores, including Walmart, Sams Club, Kroger, Pay-Less, Giant Eagle, Fishers Foods, Marianos, and more.

What is the Problem?

In the recall notice, the company said the manufacturing problems include a “non-functioning temperature indicating device raising the possibility that the product was not effectively processed.”

No illnesses were reported as of May 19, but “processing at temperatures below a required temperature could create a condition that could lead to premature spoilage or foodborne illness.”

When Were They Sold?

The recall involves around 1.6 million cases of Randall Beans that were distributed in 22 states between March 1, 2019 and May 15, 2021. The products have best-by dates through January 1, 2025, so consumers may still have these beans stored in their homes.
