Razor Recalls 237,000 Hovertrax Hoverboards for Fire Hazard
On August 25, 2021, Razor USA recalled about 237,300 lithium-ion battery packs for Hovertrax 2.0 hoverboards because they can catch on fire.
What is the Problem?
Razor recalled the hoverboards after receiving “more than 20 reports of Hovertrax 2.0 Self-Balancing Hoverboards containing GLW battery packs overheating, including some reports of smoke or fire.”
What Hoverboard Batteries Were Recalled?
Razor recalled GLW Battery Packs for Hovertrax 2.0 Self-Balancing Scooters / Hoverboards that were made from September 2016 through August 2017. The batteries are marked with “GLW” in large letters, and they have a white sticker with serial numbers beginning with GLW on top of the battery pack, below the bar code.
Where Were The Hoverboards Sold?
The recalled hoverboards were sold nationwide from September 2016 through 2018 at stores like Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, other stores, and online at Walmart.com, Amazon.com and other websites.
Razor Hovertrax Hoverboard Recall
In July 2016, Razor recalled about 28,000 Hovertrax hoverboards because the lithium-ion battery packs can overheat, which poses a “risk of the products smoking, catching fire and/or exploding,” according to the recall. There were 2 reports of the battery packs catching fire, exploding or smoking. No injuries were reported.
