River Valley Sprout Recall
On March 16, 2018, River Valley Sprouts announced a recall for 5-ounce Alfalfa Sprouts, 4-oz Alfalfa Sprouts, 5-oz Garlic/Alfalfa Sprouts and and 5-oz Variety sprouts
What is the Problem?
The sprouts may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail, elderly people, and others with weak immune systems.
Symptoms of Salmonella
Healthy persons often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
What Sprouts Were Recalled?
The recalled sprouts were packed and shipped between March 6 and March 15, 2018. They were distributed in Minnesota and Wisconsin and were sold through various grocery stores. Some packages have “sell-by” dates on the label between March 15 and March 25, 2018.
Sprouts Test Positive for Salmonella
River Valley announced the recall after routine testing by the FDA detected Salmonalla in multiple samples of 5-oz packages of Alfalfa Sprouts. The company has suspended production while the FDA continues the investigation.
What Should I Do?
Consumers who still have this product are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or destroy.
