SinuCleanse Nasal Wash Recalled for Risk of Infection

In February 2025, one lot of SinuCleanse Nasal Wash was recalled nationwide due to a risk of infections and microbial contamination.

Did Anyone Get Sick?

No infections were reported, but SinuCleanse Nasal Wash tested positive for microbial contamination with the bacteria S. aureus, which can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections.

What is the Risk?

People who use SinuCleanse Nasal Wash that is contaminated with S. aureus bacteria are at risk of developing blood infections.

The bacteria is more likely to spread to the bloodstream in people who have nasal inflammation, or mechanical injuries from nasal irrigation.

Blood infections can spread to other parts of the body, which can result in secondary infections that are life-threatening or deadly:

“Resulting secondary infections may occur, such as endocarditis (infection of the heart’s inner lining), bone and joint infections, splenic abscesses or meningitis, and bacterial sinusitis which may lead to eye tissue infections, vision problems, cranial nerve damage, or meningitis.”

What is SinuCleanse?

SinuCleanse® is a brand of nasal wash. It is used to wash the nasal passages and help relieve nasal congestion, nasal inflammation, and other symptoms of sinus infections (“sinusitis”), colds, flu, or allergies.

When used properly, a nasal wash can be an effective all-natural way to relieve sinus pressure. It can remove excess mucus and loosen thick mucus. Some people also use nasal wash products routinely to remove dust, pollen, and other allergens from their nasal passages.

How To Identify Recalled Bottles of SinuCleanse Nasal Wash

The recall was announced by Ascent Consumer Products Inc., a manufacturer based in Melville, New York.

The recall involves one lot of SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash System (Lot Number 024122661A1) with Expiration Date (12-31-2027). The product was distributed in January 2025 nationwide through retail stores and online outlets.

The product was packaged in a carton, containing the squeeze bottle and 30 saline packets. The lot number and expiration date can be found on the side of the carton, or on the back of the Saline Packets.
