StellaLife Oral Care Linked to Infection Risk

In June 2024, HomeoCare Laboratories Inc. recalled two batches of Homeopathic StellaLife Oral Care Spray and Oral Rinse products after the FDA found high levels of microbial contamination.

What Happened?

StellaLife Oral Care Spray and Oral Rinse are homeopathic products that are marketed as “microbiotic products,” but they may contain excessive levels of microbes, some of which may be harmful.

According to the FDA, StellaLife Oral Rinse and Oral Care Spray may “contain higher than acceptable levels” of Bacillus species of bacteria, and elevated Total Aerobic Microbial Count (TAMC).

What is the Risk?

No illnesses or infections were reported. Even so, infections with Bacillus bacteria can be opportunistic or life-threatening, especially for people who have open wounds in their mouth due to oral disease, recently undergoing oral surgery, or people who are immunocompromised due to certain underlying health problems.

Homeopathic StellaLife Products Linked to Sepsis and Bacteremia Risk

Using a contaminated batch of StellaLife Oral Care could result in bacteremia or sepsis, according to the recall:

“In the immunocompromised population, there is a risk that use of the product could result in severe or life-threatening adverse events due to the introduction of bacteria to the disrupted oral mucosa, possibly leading to bacteremia and sepsis.”

How To Identify Recalled Batches of StellaLife Oral Care Products

The recall involves two batches of Homeopathic StellaLife products:

  • StellaLife VEGA Oral Care, Spray Unflavored: Lot No. 2552, Expiration Date: 02-2026, NDC: 69685-121-01.
  • StellaLife Advanced Formula Peppermint VEGA Oral Care Rinse: Lot No. 2550, Expiration Date: 02-2026, NDC: 69685-143-16

What Should I Do?

Customers who bought the recalled batches of StellaLife Oral Care products should return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund. If you experienced health problems that may be related to using these contaminated products, contact a healthcare provider.
