STIHL Recalls KombiSystem Mini-Cultivator Attachments
On September 30, 2020, STIHL Inc. recalled about 185,000 STIHL BF-KM Mini-Cultivator attachments due to a risk of laceration injuries.
What is the problem?
The problem is that the gearbox could have mistakenly been installed upside down by the STIHL dealer, which will cause the sharp tines to rotate backwards toward the operator, posing a laceration hazard.
How Many People Were Injured?
STIHL said it has received 12 reports of incidents, including 6 reports of lacerations to consumers.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled tools were sold at authorized STIHL servicing dealers nationwide from January 2005 through August 2020 for about $190.
What Tool Was Recalled?
The recalled mini-cultivator is used to break up loose soil. It is one of 15 interchangeable attachments for the STIHL KombiSystem, which is a multi-tasking landscaping system that uses a single KombiMotor KM powerhead with various attachment tools that are sold separately.
What Should I Do?
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mini-cultivator attachment and take it to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer for a free inspection and free proper assembly.
