According to the CDC Outbreak Investigation, SunFed cucumbers infected 68 people with Salmonella in 19 states between October and November 2024, including 18 people who were hospitalized due to a severe illness.
Health officials identified 6 illness clusters at two assisted living facilities, three school districts, and a restaurant. No deaths were reported. Laboratory tests did not predict any antibiotic-resistance.

The recall includes all sizes of whole fresh American cucumbers that were sold between October 12, 2024 through November 26, 2024 at grocery stores, schools, restaurants, food service distributors, assisted living facilities, and other companies. Some of the cucumbers were sold at Walmart, Wegmans, Albertsons, Costco, and other grocery stores.
How To Identify Recalled Cucumbers
The recalled cucumbers were grown in Sonora, Mexico, by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V., and sold in the U.S. by SunFed Produce LLC.
The individual cucumbers may have a sticker showing “SunFed Mexico” and a PLU Number. They were also sold to retailers in bulk cardboard boxes, generic white boxes, or black plastic crates.
If you are not sure if your cucumbers are part of the recall, throw them away. According to the CDC: “If you bought whole fresh American cucumbers during October 12 and November 26 and can’t tell where they are from throw them away.”
