Costco Wine Recall
In November 2025, Costco announced a Wine Recall for nearly 1 million bottles of a popular $8 Prosecco wine after 10 reports of the glass bottles exploding, which resulted in 1 report of an injury.
What Happened?
The manufacturer, Ethica Wines, said it received 10 reports of the glass bottles shattering or breaking, including 1 person who suffered a laceration injury (cut) as a result of the broken glass.
How To Identify Costco Wine Recall
The recall involves about 941,400 bottles of Kirkland Signature® Prosecco, an $8 wine that was imported from Italy. Costco customers can check for the following information:
- Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG bottles
- UPC: 196633883742
- Costco Item Number: 1879870
- Description: Sold in a green bottle with purple foil on the top and a purple label
Where Was It Sold?
Costco sold these recalled bottles of wine between April 2025 and August 2025 at stores in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Who Announced the Recall?
The recall was announced on November 6, 2025 by Ethica Wines, a company also known as F&F Fine Wines International. This company is located in Miami, Florida, and imported the wine from Italy.
What Should I Do?
Do not attempt to use or open the bottles of wine. Customers can throw the bottles away in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines or Costco for information on how to get a refund.
