Sweet Cream Mini Pastries Recalled After Salmonella Outbreak
In January 2025, health officials in the U.S. and Canada linked a Salmonella outbreak to Sweet Cream Mini Pastries that were manufactured in Italy and imported to the U.S.
How Many People Got Sick?
In the U.S., the outbreak sickened at least 18 people since December 2024. One person was hospitalized due to a severe infection. Illnesses were reported from California, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
In Canada, at least 69 people were infected with Salmonella after eating Sweet Cream Mini Pastries, and D. Effe T. Lemon Delights, or D. Effe T. Tartlets with Forest Fruits.
Mini Pastries Recalled
On January 18, 2025, Piu Che Dolci Inc., of Quebec, Canada recalled “Sweet Cream® Mini Patisserie” pastry products with best-by dates from June 17, 2025 through November 15, 2025.
Where Were They Sold?
The recall involves a variety of ready-to-eat pastry products. They were sold to food-serve locations in the U.S., including:
- Hotel cafes
- Catered events
- Restaurants
- Bakeries
- Food-service companies
- Other institutions or cafeterias
How To Identify Recalled Mini Pastries
The recall involves all Sweet Cream® Mini Pastries with best-by dates from June 17, 2025 through November 15, 2025.
It may be hard for consumers to identify the recalled pastries. They may have been sold individually at clerk-served bakeries or cafes, or re-packaged in smaller packages, and sold with or without a label that may not have the same brand, product name, or best before date
What is Salmonella?
Infections with Salmonella usually cause symptoms within 12 to 72 hours of eating contaminated food. The symptoms may include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and sometimes more sever complications. The illness typically lasts from 4 to 7 days.
