Tippy Toes Baby Food Recalled for Patulin Toxin

In February 2026, the FDA announced a recall for one lot of “Tippy Toes” Apple Pear Banana Baby Food Fruit Pureé due to a high levels of a toxin called patulin in the baby food, which may pose health risks to babies and children.

What is Patulin?

Patulin is a toxic substance that is produced by a fungus that grows on various types of fruit, but especially apples and pears, and fruit juices.

Babies and children who are exposed to patulin may suffer from serious health problems. No illnesses were reported, but there is a risk of short-term and long-term symptoms, according to the FDA:

“Long-term exposure resulting from ingestion of patulin can lead to various adverse health consequences, including a potential for immune suppression, nerve damage, headache, fever, and nausea.”

How To Identify Recalled Baby Food

The recall involves Tippy Toes® Apple Pear Banana Baby Food Fruit Pureé, which was packaged in 2-pack plastic tubs (each tub containing 4-oz. of fruit pureé), with the following information:

  • Lot # 07174
  • Best By Date: BB 07/17/2026 (July 17, 2026)
  • UPC 036800 265783
  • Package Code Identifier INIA0120

The product was distributed nationwide in grocery stores in all U.S. states except Alaska. The product may have also been distributed in the U.S. territories of Guam and Puerto Rico.

What is the Risk?

The health risks of patulin and symptoms of eating contaminated food may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Neurological side effects
  • Gastrointestinal distress
  • Immune system problems
  • Genotoxicity
  • Liver and kidney damage

What Should I Do?

The recall was announced by IF Copack LLC, also known as “Initiative Foods.” The company is urging parents and caregivers to stop using the recalled baby food with a best-by (expiration) date of July 17, 2026.

Customers can dispose of the product, or return it to the store for a full refund.
