Did Gilead Delay Safer Drugs?
Viread was on market for years before Gilead Sciences released newer anti-viral medications with a safer version of tenofovir called Tenofovir Alafenamide (TAF). Lawsuits have been filed by people who suffered severe bone loss, tooth decay, and kidney side effects while using Gilead’s older antiviral drugs with a more dangerous version of tenofovir.
Viread Class Action Lawsuit Filed in California
In May 2018, a class action lawsuit was filed in California for everyone who took Viread and Gilead’s other antiviral medications with TDF before developing severe bone, dental, and kidney side effects.
Lawyers who filed the class action lawsuit accuse Gilead of failing to warn about severe side effects of TDF and misrepresenting its safety.
HIV Drug Lawsuits Filed Against Gilead Sciences
Gilead is also facing a personal injury lawsuit that was filed by 2 men from California who developed kidney damage, osteoporosis, and other side effects. they claim that Gilead knew as far back as 2001 that TSF was ‘…highly toxic in the doses prescribed and risked permanent and possibly fatal damage to the kidneys and bones.’ Gilead is also accused of keeping a safer version of tenofovir off the market to maximize profits on its older HIV drugs.
