July 18, 2024 — A recall has been issued for cucumbers that were sold at Walmart stores in 3 states.
The recall was announced by Wiers Farm Inc., an Ohio-based company that supplied cucumbers to Walmart.
No illnesses were reported, but routine tests by health officials in Michigan determined that the cucumbers may be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.
The company recalled a limited number of fresh whole cucumbers and bagged salad cucumbers that were sold at Walmart stores in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
The recall involves whole cucumbers with a pack date of June 5, 2024, and 2-pound bags of Wiers Farm Bagged Salad Cucumbers with pack dates of June 5 or June 6, 2024.
These items are past their shelf-life and should no longer be in distribution, according to Wiers Farm. Any consumers who may have them in their possession should discard them.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause severe and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections, according to the recall:
“Consumers who have consumed the affected product and are experiencing symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues should seek medical attention.”
