Walmart Recalls 850,000 Water Bottles After 3 Injury Reports

In July 2025, Walmart announced a recall for about 850,000 water bottles due to “serious impact and laceration hazards,” according to the recall.

How Many People Were Injured?

Three people were injured when the lid popped off the bottle and hit them in the face, including 2 people who suffered “permanent vision loss,” according to the recall.

Safety Hazards & Risk of Serious Injuries

Walmart recalled Ozark Trail Water Bottles because the screw-cap lid can forcefully eject off the bottle and cause serious injuries, such as:

  • Blindness
  • Permanent vision loss
  • Lacerations (cuts)
  • Impact injuries
  • Bruising
  • Disfigurement
  • And more

What is the Problem?

The safety problem is linked to high pressure inside the bottle, which may cause the lid to forcefully eject. According to the recall:

“The lid can forcefully eject, posing serious impact and laceration hazards, when a consumer attempts to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, are stored inside over time.”

How To Identify Recalled Water Bottles

The recall involves Ozark Trail® 64-oz. Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles. The model number does not appear on the water bottle itself, but the product packaging has model number 83-662.

The stainless-steel bottles are silver with a black one-piece screwcap lid. They measure 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches and there is an “Ozark Trail” logo embedded on the side of the bottle.

They were sold since 2017 at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com since 2017 for about $15.

What Should I Do?

Walmart is urging customers to return the water bottles to their nearest Walmart store for a full refund. You can also contact Walmart for a refund or visit the website at: https://corporate.walmart.com/recalls.
