June 24, 2019 — UNFI has announced a recall for Woodstock frozen Organic Grilled Red Peppers due to a possible risk of Listeria contamination.
The product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in routine testing by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). No illnesses were reported as of June 19.
The product comes in a 10-ounce plastic bag that is labeled with UPC 4256301714, Lot #60B, and an expiration date of April 2020. The peppers were sold nationwide.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections, according to the FDA:
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
