What Rowenta Vacuums Were Recalled?
In July 2026, Rowenta recalled about 3,660 cordless vacuum cleaners because the lithium-ion battery housed in the handle can overheat and ignite. The recall covers two models sold in red, black and silver, and the batteries were sold both separately and packaged with the vacuums.
If you own one of these vacuums, the fastest way to confirm whether yours is included is to check the battery’s model number and date code, which are printed on the back of the battery. Recalled units include:
- X-Force Flex 14.60 Animal — model number RH99A2U1
- X-Force Flex 15.60 Animal — model number RH99F2U1
- Versatile X-Force lithium-ion battery — model number ZR0097U2, with a date code beginning with either 23 or 24 (manufactured before December 2024)
Where Were They Sold?
The vacuums were sold at Williams Sonoma and Crate & Barrel, and online at Rowenta.com, Shopify.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com from July 2023 through January 2026 for between $250 and $550. If you bought a Rowenta X-Force cordless vacuum at one of these retailers in the last three years, yours could be affected by the recall.
Why Are Lithium-Ion Battery Vacuums a Fire Risk?
The recalled lithium-ion battery in the vacuum can overheat and ignite, which poses a fire hazard and a risk of serious injuries. Lithium-ion cells are dangerous when they fail because a single damaged or defective cell can enter thermal runaway, a rapid self-heating chain reaction that can lead to fire in seconds. Because the battery sits in the handle, a failure can happen while the vacuum is in your hand or charging unattended in your home.
How Many People Have Been Injured?
No injuries have been reported. Rowenta has received 2 reports of the lithium-ion battery overheating or not charging, plus an additional 65 reports globally. While the recall was issued before anyone was hurt, an overheating or igniting battery in a handheld appliance carries a serious risk of burns and property damage.
What Should I Do With a Recalled Rowenta Vacuum?
Consumers should stop using the vacuum, remove the recalled lithium-ion battery from the handle, and follow instructions to receive a free replacement battery.
To get the replacement battery, you can register for the recall on the company’s recall page, where you will be asked to upload a photograph of the battery’s model number and date code.
Do not throw the battery away in your household trash, curbside recycling, or used-battery recycling boxes, because recalled lithium-ion batteries present a greater fire risk and must be disposed of through a municipal household hazardous waste collection center.
