3M Recalls Scotch™ Thermal Laminators for Fire Hazard
In December 2022, 3M issued a recall for more than half a million Scotch™ Thermal Laminators because they can catch on fire.
How Many Fires Were Reported?
3M voluntarily recalled the laminators after 9 reports of fires, including 3 fires that also caused property damage. No injuries were reported.
What is the Problem?
A safety feature can malfunction if the laminators overheat, which poses a fire hazard, according to 3M.
According to the recall notice in Canada, the “safety feature may not operate correctly to turn off power if the product enters an overheating state due to a thermal malfunction.”
Was My Scotch Thermal Laminator Recalled?
The recall involves Scotch® Thermal Laminators with model numbers: TL1302, TL1302VP, TL1302EF, and TL1302KIT. The model number is on a sticker on the bottom of the laminator (without the letters).
The laminators are light gray/white in color with “Scotch” printed on the front. The laminating slot is approximately 13 inches wide and the machine has a carrying handle on the right side.
They were sold at Walmart, Staples, Costco and other stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com, Amazon.com and Staples.com from April 2014 through October 2022 for between $35 and $90.
What Should I Do?
3M is asking consumers to stop using the recalled laminators, unplug them, and contact 3M for information on how to properly dispose of the laminator and get a full refund. Visit https://www.scotchbrand.com/3M/en_US/scotch-brand/tl1302-laminator-recall/ for more information.
