UPDATE: IKEA Recalls Kullen 3-Drawer Chests for Tip-Over Hazard

In March 2020, IKEA recalled about 820,000 KULLEN 3-drawer chests because they can tip over and crush a child. IKEA received 6 reports of tip-over incidents, including 2 injuries involving minor cuts and bruises.

IKEA Agrees to Pay $46 Million Settlement for Death of 2-Year-Old Boy

January 2020 — In the biggest settlement for the death of a child in U.S. history, IKEA has agreed to pay $46 million to the family of Jozef Dudek, a toddler who died when an IKEA Malm dresser tipped over.

IKEA Pays $50 Million Settlement

In December 2016, IKEA paid a $50 million settlement to the parents of 3 children who died in tip-over accidents involving IKEA dressers that were later recalled. IKEA also agreed to voluntarily re-design their furniture to withstand the weight of a 50-pound child climbing on it.

IKEA Dresser Tip-Over Deaths

Children who climb on IKEA dressers that are not anchored to the wall can suffer serious injuries or death if the dresser tips over. At least 8 children have been crushed to death or suffocated under a dresser, and nearly 150 others were seriously injured.

IKEA Re-Announces Recall

In November 2017, IKEA re-announced a recall for 29 million dressers and reported that 91 children were injured in tip-over incidents involving MALM dressers. Another 53 children were injured in tip-overs involving other IKEA dressers and chests.
