CPSC Warns Consumers About CCCEI Power Strips
On March 5, 2026, the CPSC warned consumers to stop using CCCEI brand power strips immediately due to a fire hazard.
The warning covers strips sold with 6ft, 10ft, and 15ft power cords. The strips were sold on Amazon from April 2024 through January 2026 for between $25 and $30. They were manufactured in China and sold through the Amazon storefront of Middle Way Electronics.
Is There a Recall?
No. The CPSC took the unusual step of issuing a public warning rather than a formal recall because Middle Way Electronics refused to cooperate with a voluntary recall. No replacement, refund, or exchange program is currently in place. Instead, consumers are urged to immediately dispose of the power strips.
What is the Problem?
The CCCEI power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection. This is a critical safety feature that cuts power to a strip when it is drawing more electrical load than it can safely handle. Without it, an overloaded strip can overheat and ignite, potentially starting a fire in any room where it is in use.
The CPSC described the defect as follows:
“The power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection which creates a risk of fire if the power strips are overloaded. The resulting fire can cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns.”
High-draw devices like space heaters, air conditioners, and kitchen appliances are commonly plugged into power strips. When connected to a strip without overcurrent protection, they can trigger the exact failure the CPSC is warning about.
How Many People Were Injured?
The CPSC has not published a specific injury count tied to these power strips. However, the agency’s decision to issue a direct public warning (instead of going through a formal recall process) reflects the seriousness of the risk.
The risk of injuries associated with power strip fires can include:
- Burn injuries
- Smoke inhalation
- Property damage from fire
- Death in severe cases
How To Identify the Recalled Power Strips
Consumers can check their power strips and look for the following identifying information:
- Brand: CCCEI
- Sold by: Middle Way Electronics on Amazon.com
- Sale dates: April 2024 through January 2026
- Price: $25 to $30
- Cord lengths: 6ft, 10ft, or 15ft
- Appearance: Black metal enclosure, six outlets, individual on/off switch per outlet
- Manufactured in: China
What Should I Do?
Stop using the power strip immediately. Unplug it from the wall and disconnect all devices. Do not attempt to continue using it in any capacity.
You can also report a safety incident to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov. If you were injured or suffered property damage, contact a lawyer to discuss your legal options.
