2.2 Million Sledgehammers Recalled After Injuries Reported

In April 2023, Stanley Black & Decker recalled over 2.2 million DeWalt®, Stanley FATMAX@, and Craftsman® Fiberglass Sledgehammers that can break during use and cause serious injuries.

What is the Problem?

The head of the recalled sledgehammers can loosen or detach unexpectedly during use and hit people in the face or body, according to the recall. There were 192 reports of the sledgehammer head breaking off. Two people were hit and injured on their face or head.

What Sledgehammers Were Recalled?

The recall involves certain DeWALT®, Stanley FATMAX® and Craftsman® Fiberglass Sledgehammers, which weigh between 2 and 12 pounds and measure between 14″ and 36″ in length.

They were sold nationwide from November 2013 through November 2022 at The Home Depot, ACE Hardware, other stores and online for between $18 and $26.
