June 5, 2025 — Costco stores in Texas and Louisiana have recalled Topo Chico Mineral Water that may be contaminated with Pseudomonas bacteria.
The recall involves a limited number of bottles of Topo Chico in 16.9-oz. glass bottles. They.were sold in 18-pack cases at Costco stores between May 20, 2025 and May 29, 2025.
Only bottles with Lot Code #13A2541 are being recalled. This lot code can be found printed on the neck of the bottle, and also the box.
No illnesses were reported, but the recalled bottles of Topo Chico may be contaminated with Pseudomonas bacteria.
Pseudomonas is a group of bacteria that are commonly found in soil and water. The risk is usually low, but some types of Pseudomonas can be extensively antibiotic-resistant, which can make infections difficult to treat.
For example, Pseudomonas aeruginosa caused a deadly infection outbreak that killed 4 people in 2023. This outbreak was linked to contaminated eye drops.
In recent years, a growing number of recalls have been announced for products due to Pseudomonas contamination, including cleaning products, eye drops, probiotics, laundry detergent, and more.
Costco and Coca-Cola (the manufacturer of Topo Chico) are urging anyone who bought these products to return them for a full refund.
