UPDATE: Bissell Expands Vaccuum Recall for Fire Hazards

In April 2023, the recall was expanded to include another 2,000 BISSELL® Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuums (Models 2551R and 25518) because the circuit board inside the vacuum’s battery pack can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard.

In addition, about 56,000 BISSELL wet-dry vacuums were previously recalled due to the same problem in January 2023 (Models 2551, 2551W and 25519).

61,000 BISSELL Vacuums Recalled for Fire Hazard

In January 2023, BISSELL recalled more than 61,000 Cordless Multi-Surface Wet-Dry Vacuums due to a fire hazard.

What Happened?

BISSELL announced the recall after 66 reports of the vacuums smoking or emitting a burning odor, including 5 reports of fires and 3 reports of property damage. BISSELL determined that a circuit board in the battery pack could overheat and catch on fire.

Was Anyone Injured?

What Vacuums Were Recalled?

The recall involves BISSELL® Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuums (models 2551, 2551W and 25519). Around 61,000 were sold in the U.S. and another 4,300 were sold in Canada.

They were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online from January 2019 through November 2022 for about $360.

The websites include www.bissell.com, www.walmart.com, www.qvc.com, www.amazon.com, www.costco.com, www.fingerhut.com, www.acehardware.com, www.kohls.com, and www.wayfair.com.

What Should I Do?

BISSELL is asking consumers to immediately stop using the recalled wet-dry vacuums and contact the company (or an authorized service center) for a free battery pack replacement.

According to the recall: “Consumers can either take the product to a local BISSELL authorized service center for a free battery pack replacement or schedule a free in-home repair visit from an authorized BISSELL service technician to replace the existing battery pack.”
