DeWALT Recalls 1.4 Million Miter Saw for Injury Hazard

In August 2022, DeWALT recalled more than 1.4 million DeWALT® 12″ Sliding Compound Miter Saws in the U.S. and Canada after at least 9 people were injured due to a defective rear safety guard.

What is the Problem?

There were at least 571 reports of the plastic rear safety guard assembly (or parts of it) breaking off, shattering, or detaching, At least 9 people suffered laceration injuries.

What is the Risk?

If the safety guard breaks, projectiles can hit the user and bystanders, and it will not prevent a user from accidentally coming into direct contact with the saw blade, according to the recall notice posted on August 4, 2022.

What Miter Saws Were Recalled?

This recall involves DeWALT® 12-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saws (Models DWS779, DWS780 and DHS790). Only saws with date codes 2019 04 through 2022 04 are affected.

The saws have a yellow body with black accents and the DeWALT logo. The model number is printed on the saw’s nameplate.

  • For the DWS779 and DWS780 models the date codes are marked on the black plastic motor end cap adjacent to the name plate.
  • For the DHS790 model, the date code is marked on the outside of the plastic yellow housing adjacent to the batteries.

Only saws without a green dot on the name plate or a black dot on the arm of the saw are included in this recall. Saws that have a green dot have already been inspected, according to DeWalt.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled miter saws were sold nationwide at Lowe’s, Home Depot, other hardware stores, and online at Amazon.com, Lowes.com and other websites from April 2019 through May 2022 for $600 to $820.
