Whole Foods Bean Sprout Recall
March 2019 — Whole Foods Markets and Fullei Fresh of Miami, Florida have recalled Organic Bean Sprouts that may be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.
What Bean Sprouts Were Recalled?
The recalled bean sprouts were shipped to Whole Foods Markets in Florida on February 18, 2019. They were also shipped to a distributor in Miami called Freedom Fresh on the same date.
The recalled bean sprouts have a label marked with the following information:
- 4 oz. plastic clamshells with UPC Code 017442052108 — Lot Code 041 — and a “Sell-By” date of February 28, 2019
Have Any Illnesses Been Reported?
Fullei Fresh did not report any illnesses associated with the recalled green beans.
Why Was the Recall Issued?
A sample from a store shelf tested positive for Listeria in testing by the Florida Department of Agriculture.
What is Listeria?
The bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections, meningitis, bloodstream infections, and even death. Among pregnant women, Listeria may not cause any symptoms, but result in a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the newborn baby.
Among healthy adults, the symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
