Frigidaire Mini Fridges Recalled After Fires Cause $700,000 in Damage

In July 2025, Curtis International announced a recall for about 634,000 Frigidaire® Mini Fridges that can short-circuit and ignite, which poses a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries. There were multiple fires reported, with property damages totaling more than $700,000, according to the recall.

What Happened?

Curtis International warned that the “internal electrical components can short-circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing.”

Dozens of incidents were reported when the Frigidaire Mini Fridges short-circuited, including fires, people who suffered smoke inhalation injuries, and more than $700,000 in property damage.

According to the manufacturer:

“Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of the minifridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire, with property damages totaling more than $700,000. Two consumers reported smoke inhalation injuries.”

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled Frigidaire Mini Fridges were sold nationwide at Walmart stores, other stores, and websites like Walmart.com and Amazonc.om between January 2020 and December 2023.

What Are Portable Mini Fridges?

The recall involves certain models of Frigidaire “Retro” Mini Fridges, which were advertised as small portable refrigerators for drinks, snacks, or skincare products. They were sold in 6-can or 9-can sizes, in colors like black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver.

How To Identify Recalled Mini Fridges

The recall only involves specific models of the Frigidaire Mini Fridges, and because the model numbers are very similar, you can visit the recall website to check: https://www.recallrtr.com/minifridge.

The recalled mini fridges have model numbers EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149 and EFMIS175. The recall is limited to units manufactured between January 2020 and December 2023 that do not include a “-B” or “-C” in the model number.

Can I Get a Refund?

Yes. If your Frigidaire Mini Fridge is part of the recall, the manufacturer is offering a full refund. You will need to register on the recall website, upload photos showing the model and serial number of your unit, and another photo of the unit with the cord cut and “RECALL” written in permanent marker on the front door.
