GOPO Pull-String Teething Toys Recalled After 3 Choking Reports

In June 2026, the California-based company GOPO Toys announced a recall for approximately 70,410 GOPO TOYS Pull-String Teething Toys due to a serious choking hazard. There were 3 reports of the toy’s strings reaching the back of a child’s throat, resulting in respiratory distress or choking, according to the recall.

Where Were They Sold?

The teething toys were distributed by GOPO Toys LLC, of San Bernardino, California, and manufactured in China. They were sold on Amazon.com from August 2023 through March 2026 for between $11 and $15.

What Is the Problem?

According to the CPSC, the recalled teething toys violate the mandatory standard for toys because the 6 silicone “tentacles” or “strings” that extend below the main body of the toy are too small and long to be permitted under the safety standard.

These long silicone strings pose a choking hazard because they can reach the back of a child’s throat and get stuck. Once the strings are lodged in a child’s throat, they may block the child’s airway. Young children might not be able to remove the toy once it is lodged and they are actively choking or unable to breathe.

The CPSC describes the hazard as follows:

“The strings can reach the back of children’s throat and become lodged, posing a serious risk of respiratory distress and deadly choking hazard.”

How Many Children Were Affected?

GOPO Toys said it received 3 reports of the toy’s strings reaching the back of a child’s throat, resulting in respiratory distress or choking. No deaths have been reported, but the CPSC is warning parents and caregivers that this toy (and others with a similar design) pose a risk of “serious injury or death” from choking.

The GOPO recall is part of a much larger pattern involving toys with a nearly-identical design, including many that were sold by Amazon sellers based in China. There have been at least 5 recalls for pull-string teething toys since January 2026. The CPSC has dozens of reports of choking incidents tied to the same basic design.

What Should I Do?

Consumers should stop using the toy immediately, take it away from children, and contact GOPO Toys for a full refund.

To get the refund, GOPO asks you to destroy the toy by cutting off all of the silicone pull-strings and writing “DESTROYED” in permanent marker on the main body of the toy. Then send a photo of the destroyed toy to recalls@gopotoys.com before disposing of it.

For more information, you can reach GOPO Toys at 800-445-2344 or visit the company’s recall page.
