HALO 1000 Power Stations Recalled After 1 Death Reported
On August 29, 2024, about 5,740 HALO 1000 Power Stations were recalled after a person died in a fire.
The death involved a 79-year-old man in Bradenton, Florida, who died from smoke inhalation when the HALO 1000 Power Station caught on fire inside his home in June 2022.
In addition to the death, the manufacturers received 4 reports of fires involving the HALO 1000 Portable Power Station, including 2 reports of smoke inhalation, one of which included burn injuries.
What is the Problem?
The lithium-ion batteries can overheat and catch on fire inside the HALO 1000 Portable Power Stations, which poses a risk of death, severe burn injuries, smoke inhalation, and property damage.
How To Identify Recalled Power Stations
The recall involves HALO 1000 Portable Power Stations, which were sold by three retailers:
- ZAGG Inc. (ZAGG), of Midvale, Utah
- Alliance Consumer Group (ACG), of Roanoke, Texas
- QVC Inc., of West Chester, Pennsylvania
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled HALO 1000 Power Stations were sold by ZAGG, ACG and retailer QVC from October 2021 through March 2022 for between $1,000 and $1,300.
The power stations have a high-capacity lithium-ion battery power banks with charge ports, AC outputs, DC outputs, a DC socket, a built-in flood light, and a collapsible handle.
What Should I Do?
Consumers who bought a recalled HALO 1000 Power Station are urged to stop using it immediately, cut the power cord, and contact the firm for a free replacement.
