Which Eggs Were Recalled?

The recall covers 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs, or more than 19 million eggs in total. If you bought eggs at a major grocery store in Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana this summer, you may be affected by this recall.

The eggs were sold under several brand names. Recalled brands include:

• Kroger (Large, Extra Large, Medium, and Jumbo, in cartons from 12 to 60 eggs)
• Simple Truth Cage Free Brown (Medium and Large)
• Brookshire’s (Large, Extra Large, and Jumbo)
• Country Morning (Large, Extra Large, Medium, and Jumbo)
• Sunups (Medium)
• Bulk Grade A and Grade AA cartons

How To Identify Recalled Egg Cartons

The recalled cartons have an identifying code printed in date-coding ink on the left or right side of the carton. According to the FDA, only cartons marked with the plant code P-1950 or 0840962 and a Julian date between 157 and 184 are included, with sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17, 2026.

Where Were the Recalled Eggs Sold?

Midwest Poultry Services distributed the eggs to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. The eggs were produced on two of the company’s farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3, 2026. Consumers were able to buy the recalled eggs at:

• Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana
• Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi
• Other smaller grocery stores and retail outlets

What Is the Risk of Salmonella?

Salmonella can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections. Because the symptoms can look like an ordinary stomach bug, you may not realize that a foodborne infection is to blame.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience:

• Fever
• Diarrhea, which may be bloody
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal pain

How Many People Got Sick?

As of July 22, 2026, no illnesses have been linked to these eggs. Midwest Poultry Services said it is not aware of any specific illnesses connected to its products.

How Was the Problem Discovered?

Midwest Poultry Services said it identified the issue on its two Texas farms through proactive environmental monitoring and root cause analysis. The company described the discovery in the recall notice as follows:

“Midwest Poultry Services identified the issue on its two Texas farms through proactive environmental monitoring practices and root cause analysis.”

The company also said it is not distributing fresh eggs produced on its Texas farms at this time.

Have Eggs Been Recalled for Salmonella Before?

Eggs are one of the most common sources of Salmonella outbreaks in the United States, and this is far from the first large egg recall. In December 2025, Vega Farms brown eggs were tied to a Salmonella outbreak that sickened at least 63 people, 13 of whom were hospitalized.

Earlier in 2025, Country Eggs, LLC recalled brown cage-free eggs sold as “Sunshine Yolks” after an outbreak sickened at least 95 people in 14 states. In June 2025, August Egg Company recalled 1.7 million eggs linked to an outbreak that sickened 79 people in 7 states.

What Should I Do With Recalled Eggs?
