March 30, 2022 — Liberty Fruit Co. recalled a variety of mixed fruit trays containing pre-cut cantaloupe chunks that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The recall involves fruit bowls and trays that were sold under Carol’s Cuts® and Liberty Fruit Company® brand-names in the following states: Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska.
The products were sold directly to consumers and also foodservice operations.
The recall involves Fruit Medley, Fruit Tray, Fruit Salad, Cantaloupe Chunks, Hawaiian Blend, and Melon Medley with expiration dates ranging from 3/21/2022 to 3/26/2022.
No illnesses were reported to date. The recall was announced after a routine test by the FDA was positive for Salmonella.
Infections with Salmonella are not usually serious for healthy people, but they may experience symptoms like fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
In rare cases, Salmonella bacteria can spread beyond the digestive system to other parts of the body, resulting in life-threatening complications, according to the FDA.
