Meijer Recalls Cantaloupe for Salmonella Risk
On October 7, 2020, Meijer and Eagle Produce recalled whole cantaloupes and several fruit bowls and trays containing pre-cut cantaloupe that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
What is the Problem?
No illnesses were reported as of October 7. Instead, the recall was issued after a routine sample was positive for Salmonella in testing conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
What Products Were Recalled?
The recalled cantaloupe, fruit trays, and fruit bowls were sold between September 26 and October 5, 2020 at all Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
The whole cantaloupe may be labeled with a sticker “Kandy Brand” from Eagle Produce LLC. However, whole cantaloupes without a sticker label to identify it should still be considered part of the recall.
The fruit bowls and trays were sold in various weights ranging from 6 ounces to 40 ounces. They may have pre-cut cantaloupe and other fruits, such as strawberries, honeydew, blueberries, or pineapples.
