Why Was a Lawsuit Filed Against NuWave?

In June 2026, a Nutri-Pot Lawsuit was filed against NuWave LLC by a woman from Indiana who was severely burned when the lid of her Nutri-Pot Digital Pressure Cooker opened while the unit was still under pressure. The incident occurred on September 7, 2025, during the normal, directed use of the pressure cooker, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit includes claims for strict liability, negligence, breach of express warranty, and breach of implied warranty. It seeks compensatory and punitive damages for bodily injuries, medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished enjoyment of life.

The lawsuit was filed on June 4, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:26-cv-06629

What Is the Problem With the Sure-Lock® Safety System?

The NuWave Nutri-Pot is advertised with a “Sure-Lock® Safety System,” a set of features that is supposed to prevent the lid from being opened while the unit is pressurized. The lawsuit blames the woman’s injuries on the failure of this safety system.

According to the complaint, she was burned as a direct result of:

“The pressure cooker’s lid being able to be rotated and opened while the pressure cooker was still under pressure, during the normal, directed use of the pressure cooker, allowing its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker and onto Plaintiff.”

The lawsuit claims NuWave advertises that “safety is a core value” and that its pressure cookers include “multiple independent safety features.” It alleges those representations are “not just misleading, they are false, and put consumers like Plaintiff directly in harm’s way.”

What Injuries Were Reported?

The plaintiff suffered severe 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns to her torso and breast, according to the complaint. Pressure cookers can eject scalding-hot food, liquid, and steam with significant force when the lid is removed while the unit is still pressurized, and people standing nearby often have no time to react.

Her injuries required extensive medical treatment, including:

  • Hospitalization
  • Surgical intervention
  • A skin graft procedure

Has the NuWave Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker Been Recalled?

No. The NuWave Nutri-Pot has not been recalled, and the lawsuit specifically accuses NuWave of failing to recall the pressure cooker or adopt safer alternative designs despite knowing about the alleged defect.

This is not the first lawsuit of its kind. In October 2024, a pressure cooker burn lawsuit was filed against NuWave in the same court by a woman from Kansas who claimed she was burned when she opened the lid of a pressurized Nutri-Pot Pressure CookerCase Number 1:24-cv-11220.

That lawsuit claimed there were at least 26 prior incidents involving NuWave pressure cookers, some occurring as early as December 2016. Nationwide, hundreds of pressure cooker lawsuits have been filed against a variety of manufacturers. All of these lawsuits share common allegations involving defective safety mechanisms and design flaws.
