In November 2020, a woman from Indiana who was severely burned by her Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker filed a lawsuit against NuWave LLC. Chef Files NuWave Pressure Cooker Explosion Lawsuit

In December 2016, a lawsuit was filed by a chef who suffered 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns when a NuWave pressure cooker exploded boiling-hot food all over his face, chest and arms.

The lawsuit was filed by Donald D.D. Sr., a man from Louisiana who was burned by the NuWave pressure cooker on December 15, 2015.

He claims that pressure cooker exploded after he released the pressure as indicated in the instruction manual.

The explosion caused burn injuries that resulted in months of painful rehabilitation and costly medical bills, according to the lawsuit. He accuses NuWave of selling a dangerously defective pressure cooker.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana — Case Number 2:16-cv-17126.

NuWave Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker

NuWave LLC sells the Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker, a product that has recently come under scrutiny after consumers were burned when it malfunctioned and exploded hot food. The Nutri-Pot is advertised as having a Sure-Lock® Safety System and other features that prevent explosions by locking the lid until the pot is fully depressurized.

What Causes Explosions?

Pressure cooker explosions can occur when users pen the lid while the pot contains a dangerous amount of pressure. Explosions can also occur during the cooking process if a defective lid fails to lock properly.

Woman Reports NuWave Pressure Cooker Explosion

In July 2018, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission received a report of a woman who said her NuWave 6Q Electric Pressure Cooker exploded. The woman said the lid blew off and hit the ceiling.

She wrote, “No one was hurt because we were in the other room, but this could have caused harm to myself and my 15 month-old son.”
