November 14, 2024 — A woman who was burned when she opened the lid on her Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against NuWave LLC.
The plaintiff, Angela M. E., is a resident of Wichita, Kansas, who suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” on December 5, 2022.
She was burned while using a NuWave 6-Quart Nutri-Pot Digital Pressure Cooker (Model Number 33101 C), which she claims is “unreasonably dangerous” due to “defective” safety features.
She claims that the lid can open when the pressure cooker is still pressurized, which can eject scalding-hot food or liquid out of the pot.
In her lawsuit, she accuses NuWave of ignoring or concealing its knowledge about the pressure cookers’ defects. She claims that NuWave still advertises the Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker as having a “Sure-Lock® Safety System,” despite evidence that it can fail.
According to her lawsuit, there have been dozens of incidents:
“Plaintiff is aware of at least 26 incidents stemming from NuWave’s defective pressure cookers prior to the incident that resulted in her injuries. Some of these incidents occurred as early as December 2016.”
She is seeking compensatory damages resulting from her use of the NuWave Pressure Cooker, which caused bodily injuries, medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, diminished enjoyment of life, and other damages.
Her Nutri-Pot Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed against NuWave LLC on October 31, 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) — Case Number 1:24-cv-11220.
