Pistachio Cream Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

In June 2025, health officials linked an outbreak of Salmonella to Emek Pistachio Cream, a shelf-stable nut butter product that was manufactured in Turkey and imported to the U.S., where it was sold nationwide to retailers, restaurants, and distributors.

How Many People Got Sick?

As of June 13, 2025, Emek Pistachio Cream has infected 4 people with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Oranienburg in 2 states (Minnesota and New Jersey) between March and May 2025.

Three of the victims were people who got sick with Salmonella after eating pistachio cream at the same restaurant in Minnesota, which was not identified.

True Number of Sick People is Likely Higher

Emek Pistachio Cream was sold nationwide and other people may have gotten sick in other states, according to health officials: “The true number of sick people in this outbreak is likely much higher than the number reported, and the outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses,” according to the CDC Outbreak Advisory.

How To Identify Recalled Pistachio Cream

The recall involves Emek® Pistachio Cream, which was sold in 5-kilogram (11-pound) white plastic tubs.

The product was manufactured in Turkey, imported to the U.S., and sold online for wholesale distributors, restaurants, and food service locations nationwide.

Customers can identify the recalled tubs of pistachio cream with the following information:

  • Use-by date of October 19, 2026 (TETT: 19/10/26 (DD/MM/YY))
  • Production code PNO: 241019

What Should I Do?

The FDA is warning customers, restaurants, and retailers: “Do not eat, sell, or serve Emek-brand pistachio cream with a use by date of October 19, 2026.”

Anyone who developed symptoms of Salmonella after eating pistachio cream (or products that may have contained pistachio cream) should contact a healthcare professional and tell them about this outbreak.
