Planters Nuts Recalled for Listeria Risk

In May 2024, Hormel recalled two types of Planters® peanuts and mixed nuts in 5 states due to a risk of Listeria contamination.

The recall involves 4 oz. bags of PLANTERS® Honey Roasted Peanuts and 8.75 oz. cans of PLANTERS® Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts.

How To Identify Recalled Planters Nuts

The recall involves the following Planters nut products:

  • PLANTERS® Honey Roasted Peanuts: UPC 2900002097 and Best-If-Used-By Date: 04 11 25
  • PLANTERS® Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts: UPC 2900001621 and Best-If-Used-By Date: 05APR26

Where Were They Sold?

The products were shipped to Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina and to Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

Did Anyone Get Sick?

No illnesses were linked to the recalled nuts, but infections with Listeria monocytogenes can be severe or life-threatening.

The risk of a severe infection is highest for young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Listeria infections can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, according to the FDA.

What Should I Do?

Hormel is urging customers who bought this product to throw it away, or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. For more information, visit Hormel’s recall website.
