469,000 Power XL Self-Cleaning Juicers Recalled After 47 People Injured

In June 2023, Tristar Products Inc. (also known as Empower Brands) issued a recall for over 469,000 Power XL Self-Cleaning Juicers after at least 47 people were injured.

What is the Risk?

  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Severe bleeding
  • Needing stitches
  • Permanent scarring
  • Swallowing particle shavings in the juice
  • Internal injuries
  • Hospitalization

What is the Problem?

The juicers can rupture during use and shoot out broken pieces that can hit consumers, causing severe lacerations that may need stitches, or other serious injuries. Another problem is that the juicers can leave small particle shavings in the juice, which consumers may swallow. This poses a risk of internal injuries that may need medical attention.

How Many People Were Injured?

The manufacturer said it is aware of 261 incidents, including 47 reports of injuries. Some of the injuries involved “severe cuts requiring emergency treatment, stitches, bruises and ingestion of small particles requiring medical attention,” according to the recall.

The recall involves two models of Power XL Self-Cleaning Juicers (Model SHL96 and Model SHL90-SC) which were sold nationwide in the U.S. and Canada between September 2020 and August 2022.

  • Model SHL90-SC: Sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide and online at www.walmart.com.
  • SHL96: BJ’s Wholesale Club, CVS, Kohl’s, Marshall’s, Target, T.J. Maxx, Walmart, other stores nationwide, and online at www.Amazon.com.
