456,000 PowerXL Stuffed Waffle Makers Recalled
In May 2023, Empower Brands (also called Tristar Products) issued a recall for 456,000 PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer® Stuffed Waffle Makers due to a risk of serious burn injuries.
What is the Problem?
Dozens of people were burned when they opened the lid on their PowerXL Stuffed Waffle Maker and hot food exploded out. The problem is that when the lid is latched, too much pressure can build up inside the waffle maker from hot steam and food. As soon as a person opens the lid, the pressure can cause burning-hot food to fly out.
How Many People Were Burned?
There were 44 reports of incidents, including 34 people who said they were burned by hot food that exploded out of the waffle maker. Three people needed medical attention, according to the manufacturer.
Was My Waffle Maker Recalled?
This recall involves the PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer® Waffle Makers with Model ESWM02 (five inch) and Model ESWM03 (seven inch).
These waffle makers were sold in 11 colors. The “PowerXL” logo is located on top of the waffle maker. The model numbers and date codes are printed on a tag attached to the power cord. All date codes are being recalled.
The waffle makers were sold nationwide for $30 to $60 at Walmart, Kohls, Big Lots, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Best Buy, The Home Depot, Target, Sam’s Club, other home goods stores, and online.
Can I File a Lawsuit for Burn Injuries?
Consumers should stop using the recalled waffle makers due to the risk of burn injuries. Tristar Products is already facing lawsuits from people who were burned by the Power Pressure Cooker XL. If you were burned by the Stuffed Wafflizer®, you may be able to file a lawsuit and seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, permanent scarring, and more.
What Should I Do?
The manufacturer is not offering a refund. Instead, consumers can visit https://recall.prodprotect.com/wafflizer to register for a free latch adapter clip.
