QVC Oven Gloves Recalled After 92 People Burned
In December 2024, the TV-show retailer QVC announced a recall for about 1.1 million pairs of Temp-Tations Oven Gloves because they may not protect people from burn injuries.
What is the Problem?
The oven gloves “can fail to provide sufficient protection from heat, posing a burn hazard to consumers.” QVC said it received 162 complaints about the gloves not providing enough heat protection, including 92 people who suffered minor burn injuries using the gloves.
What Are Oven Gloves Made Of?
The recalled QVC Temp-Tations Oven Gloves were made of cotton and elastane (a stretchy synthetic fiber that is also known as Lycra or Spandex). Oven gloves are typically made of an thick external layer like cotton, silicone, or another type of heat-resistant material, with a padded inner layer.
Why Do Oven Gloves Fail to Stop Burns?
Oven gloves may not protect against burn injuries if the external layer of material is too thin, or if it is made of a material that does not provide enough insulation against hot temperatures.
Using an oven glove that does not provide enough heat protection can result in severe burn injuries. These burns can occur when the glove fails to prevent heat transfer to a person’s hands. There is also a risk of dropping something hot, which could result in an even more catastrophic accident in the kitchen.
How To Identify Recalled Oven Gloves
QVC is urging customers to check if their oven gloves are being recalled, and immediately stop using them. The gloves were sold in a variety of colors and patterns between August 2018 and August 2024.
The name “Temp-Tations by Tara” is on a label stitched in the gloves. The recalled models are: K51459, K76398, K47973, K48879, K85322, K96004, K92603, K308719, K309220, K309388 and K309516.
They were sold on televised QVC shoes, QVC.com, and QVC digital shopping platforms. Customers may have purchased the oven gloves in single pairs, or two-pair sets, for between $4 and $13 per pair.
The recalled oven gloves were also sold bundled in sets with other kitchen items, such as trivets or drying mats, for around $14 to $26.
What Should I Do?
If you own a pair of Temp-Tations Oven Gloves that were recalled due to a burn hazard, immediately stop using them to avoid serious injury.
You can visit the recall website at https://www.recallrtr.com/ovengloves for more information. QVC will provide a refund in the form of a check to customers who can provide photographic proof of purchase.
