Rosabella Moringa Capsules Linked to Drug-Resistant Salmonella Outbreak

In February 2026, the first U.S. outbreak of extensively drug-resistant Salmonella was linked to Rosabella® Moringa Capsules, a “superfood” supplement that contains capsules of green Moringa leaf powder.

What Happened?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Newport linked to Moringa Powder Capsules, with 7 illnesses in 7 states since November 2025.

There were no deaths reported, but 3 people had to be hospitalized due to a severe illness.

The recalled Rosabella® Moringa Capsules were distributed nationwide, so illnesses may be more widespread. So far, illnesses have been reported in the following 7 states:

  • Arizona
  • Florida
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Tennessee
  • Washington

What Should I Do?

Anyone who may have purchased Rosabella® Moringa Capsules should check if the bottle has an expiration date in 2027. You can verify if the Lot Code is listed in the recall posted by the manufacturer, Ambrosia Brands LLC, of New York City, New York.

If your bottle of Rosabella® Moringa Capsules is affected by the recall, you can discard it or return it for a refund.

Ambrosia Brands said the recalled Moringa Capsule products were sold nationwide in the U.S. through their website (tryrosabella.com) and Tik Tok Shop (https://www.tiktok.com/shop/pdp/moringa-capsules-800mg-by-rosabella-for-immune-gut-health-support/1729464033034539782) since February 2025.

Outbreak Involves Extensively Drug-Resistant Salmonella

This Salmonella outbreak is unique because it is the first-ever U.S. outbreak of an extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strain. Infections are “extremely hard to treat and can be deadly,” the CDC warned.

The strain of Salmonella has the NDM-1 carbapenemase gene, which makes bacteria resistant to nearly all beta-lactam antibiotics, including carbapenems, which are used as a “last resort” when other antibiotic treatments have failed to cure the infection.

This outbreak is especially dangerous because the strain of Salmonella is resistant to all first-line and alternative antibiotics which are commonly used as a last-resort when other antibiotics fail.

What is the Risk?

While most healthy adults will survive a Salmonella infection without needing medical treatment, individuals who develop a severe infection may be at risk of suffering life-threatening complications.

Health officials believe that avoiding the use of unnecessary antibiotics in cattle, especially antibiotics that are important for treating human infections, may help prevent the spread of these strains of extensively drug-resistant bacteria such as Salmonella.

Bacteria that produce this gene are often referred to as “superbugs” because infections are so difficult to treat.

What Are Moringa Capsules?

Rosabella® is one of many brands of supplements that contain green Moringa leaf powder. The capsules are advertised as a plant-based “superfood” that is derived from the Moringa oleifera leaves.

The capsules are sometimes called “nature’s multi-vitamin” because they contain a potent, nutrient-dense mixture of vitamins and minerals.

Moringa supplements have been linked to Salmonella outbreaks and multiple recalls in recent months. The recalls began after an outbreak of Salmonella was linked to Super Greens Powder, a supplement that was sold at Sam’s Club, with multiple ingredients including Moringa leaf.

Since then, the FDA has announced multiple recalls for supplements containing Moringa leaf powder. These recalls were announced after many products tested positive for Salmonella.
