Sekaer Kettles Linked to 89 Burn Injuries in CPSC Warning
In June 2026, the CPSC warned consumers to stop using Sekaer Electric Kettles due to a “risk of serious injury or death” from severe burns. The problem is that the kettles can pressurize and suddenly spray boiling-hot steam or liquid. Dozens of people have reported severe burn injuries.
Is This a Recall?
No. This was announced by the CPSC directly to consumers as a “Product Safety Warning,” not a recall. According to the CPSC, the Chinese seller, Sekaer Store, has been unresponsive to the agency’s requests for a recall or other information about these kettles.
What Is the Problem?
Sekaer Electric Kettles are travel-size, stainless-steel water boilers. They are typically used to heat water for tea, coffee and other drinks. The problem is that the kettles can build up pressure when they are being used.
“The kettles can pressurize and release hot steam or liquid unexpectedly, posing a risk of serious injury or death from burn hazard.”
When a sealed kettle pressurizes and then vents without warning, the product can spray scalding-hot water and steam onto the hands, arms, face and body of anyone nearby – including innocent bystanders or even children.
How Many People Were Burned?
The CPSC said it was aware of 116 reports of the kettles releasing hot liquid or steam unexpectedly. These reports included 89 people who were burned nationwide. The burn injuries included 2nd-degree and 3rd-degree burns.
These injuries can be very serious, and even life-threatening:
- A second-degree burn damages the top two layers of skin, the epidermis and the dermis. The symptoms include blistering, swelling, intense redness and a shiny, moist appearance. If hot water from your kettle left painful blisters that took weeks to heal, that is consistent with a 2nd-degree burn.
- A third-degree burn is far more serious, destroying or damaging all 3 layers of skin. 3rd-degree burns can also damage the fatty tissue underneath the skin and destroy nerve endings. The injury can be life-threatening. Treatment often involves skin graft surgery, and the long-term complications can include scarring, disfigurement, disability, and nerve damage.
How To Identify Affected Sekaer Kettles
This warning involves all Sekaer portable electric kettles. You can identify these kettles with the following details:
- Travel-size, stainless-steel water boilers with 330, 380, 400 or 500 mL capacities
- Sold in black, white, green, white with gold, black with gold or gray with silver

- Model number SY-618, SKE-833, SKE-840 or SKE-850 appears on the product packaging
- Sold online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, eBay.com and Sears.com

What Should I Do?
The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the kettles immediately and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away the kettles. Because the seller has been unresponsive to recall requests, there is no refund or repair available for this product.
