Youth ATVs Recalled After Failing the Federal ATV Safety Standard
In May 2026, Lil Pick Up recalled about 700 Sierra 125U Youth ATVs because they violate the federal mandatory ATV safety standard, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
These vehicles are designed for children, which makes each of these failures especially dangerous. The CPSC described multiple safety hazards, including:
- They fail to meet mechanical suspension requirements
- The reverse indicator light fails to illuminate, posing a crash hazard
- The parking brakes fail to hold, posing a collision hazard.
- Surfaces near the footwell can also reach high temperatures, posing a risk of severe burns.
What Is the Problem?
An all-terrain vehicle that does not meet the federal safety standard can put a child in danger in several ways at once. A parking brake that fails to hold can let the ATV roll or move unexpectedly, and a reverse light that does not illuminate removes a warning a child rider relies on.
If the footwell heats up during normal riding, a young rider’s leg or foot can be burned without warning. If your child was hurt while riding one of these ATVs, your experience matches the very defects federal regulators identified.
How Many People Were Injured?
No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall as of May 21, 2026. The recall was issued because the ATVs fail to meet the federal mandatory safety standard and pose a risk of serious injury or death, not because injuries had already been documented.
