Best Buy Recalled Insignia Gas Ranges for a Front-Knob Fire Hazard
In July 2026, Best Buy recalled approximately 3,820 Insignia Front Control Gas Ranges through the CPSC because the front-mounted knobs can be turned on by accidental contact. The recall involves two stainless steel models, NS-RGFGSS1 and NS-RGFCGS2, each with five front knobs and an “Insignia” label on the bottom of the oven door.
The ranges were imported by Best Buy Purchasing LLC of Richfield, Minnesota, and manufactured in China. About 700 additional units were sold in Canada under a related recall.
What Is the Problem With Insignia Gas Ranges?
The CPSC describes the hazard as front-mounted knobs that “can be activated accidentally by humans or pets, posing a risk of serious injury from a fire hazard.” Because the knobs sit at the front of the range, a passing person or a curious pet can turn a burner on without anyone realizing it.
On a gas range, an unnoticed knob turn can ignite a burner or release gas near anything left on the cooktop. That is why the CPSC tells owners to keep objects off the range and to check that every knob is off before leaving home or going to bed.
How Many Fires and Injuries Have Been Reported?
Best Buy has received 1 report of the Insignia knobs being activated by accidental contact. So far, no injuries have been reported. The recall was issued as a preventive measure before anyone was hurt.
That small number reflects how new and limited this recall is, not how dangerous the underlying defect can be. The same front-knob design has been tied to hundreds of fires and dozens of injuries on other brands, which is why federal regulators acted quickly on the Insignia ranges.
Have Other Stoves Been Recalled for the Same Knob Defect?
Yes. The Insignia recall is the third major stove recall in under two years over knobs that turn on by accidental contact. In August 2024, Samsung recalled about 1.1 million slide-in electric ranges after more than 300 reports of unintentional knob activation, roughly 250 fires, about 40 injuries, and seven fires involving pet deaths, according to the CPSC.
In February 2025, LG recalled about 500,000 electric ranges for the same defect. The CPSC reported more than 28 fires, at least eight injuries, and three fires involving pet deaths tied to those LG ranges. Together, these actions show a well-documented pattern of front-knob ranges being linked to home fires.
How Do I Know If My Insignia Gas Range Is Recalled?
The model number is printed on a label inside the range’s bottom drawer. Your Insignia gas range is included in the recall if it matches the following:
- Model numbers NS-RGFGSS1 or NS-RGFCGS2
- Stainless steel finish with five front knobs
- “Insignia” label on the bottom of the oven door
- Sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and bestbuy.com from November 2020 through March 2026
- Priced between $280 and $1,470
What Should I Do?
The CPSC advises owners to stop using the recalled oven immediately. Best Buy is offering a free set of compatible knob covers with installation instructions, which it will send after you confirm your range is included.
You can confirm your range and request the covers at Best Buy’s recall website, recallrtr.com/range, or by calling Best Buy at 800-566-7498. Until the covers are installed, keep children and pets away from the knobs, keep the cooktop clear, and check that the knobs are off before leaving home or going to bed.
