Specialized E-Bikes Recalled for Safety Risk
In March 2025, Specialized recalled about 32,400 Vado and Como IGH E-Bikes with Chain Guards because loose clothing can get caught in the belt drive, which poses a fall hazard. No injuries were reported.
The recall involves chain guards on Turbo Como IGH, Turbo Como SL IGH, and Turbo Vado IGH e-bikes that were sold between 2021 and 2024.
What is the Problem?
Specialized Vado and Como IGH E-Bikes were recalled because the protective chain/belt guard does not cover the belt drive, and loose clothing can get entrapped in the drivetrain, which poses a fall hazard.
How To Identify Recalled Specialized E-Bikes
This recall involves Specialized Vado and Como IGH e-bikes with chain/belt guards. These bikes have an internal gear hub (IGH) and no rear derailleur (gear shift).
If your bike has a rear derailleur, it is not a gear hub equipped bike and therefore not recalled.
The recalled Specialized bicycle model numbers include:
- COMO 3.0 IGH
- COMO 3.0 IGH UL
- COMO 4.0 IGH
- COMO 4.0 IGH UL
- COMO 5.0 IGH
- COMO 5.0 IGH UL
- COMO SL 4.0
- COMO SL 5.0
- VADO 3.0 IGH
- VADO 3.0 IGH ST
- VADO 3.0 IGH STEP THROUGH UL
- VADO 3.0 IGH UL
- VADO 5.0 IGH
- VADO 5.0 IGH ST
- VADO 5.0 IGH STEP THROUGH UL
The model numbers are printed on the white and black serial number label located on the underside of the bicycle’s top tube.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled e-bikes were sold at authorized Specialized Bicycle retailers nationwide and online from March 2021 through November 2024 for between $3,250 and $5,750.
What Should I Do?
Specialized is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled e-bikes and contact an authorized Specialized retailer for a free installation of an updated protective chain/belt guard.
