March 28, 2024 — Subaru has recalled 118,723 vehicles because a problem with the airbags may cause them to fail to deploy in a crash.
The recall covers the 2020-2022 Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy vehicles. The front passenger airbag on these vehicles may not inflate in a crash, according to the recall:
“A capacitor in the sensors for the Occupant Detection System (ODS) may crack and short circuit, which can prevent the front passenger air bag from deploying in a crash.”
No injuries were reported, but an airbag that does not deploy in a crash can increase the risk of injury or death.
Subaru will notify owners about the recall on May 21, 2024. Owners will receive a second letter once a remedy is available. Dealers will replace the ODS sensor on the front passenger seat, free of charge.
