Sublue Underwater Scooters Recalled for Fire Hazard

In March 2025, Sublue announced a recall for about 40,370 Sublue Mix Underwater Scooters and replacement batteries that can overheat or catch on fire.

What is the Problem?

The underwater scooters were recalled because their rechargeable lithium-ion batteries can overheat and ignite, which poses a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries to consumers.

Was Anyone Burned by an Underwater Scooter?

Yes. Sublue said there was 1 report of a person who was burned when an underwater scooter battery overheated.

Property Damage Totaling $650,000+ Linked to Underwater Scooters

Sublue said it received 161 reports of thermal and swelling incidents involving the lithium-ion batteries on the recalled underwater scooters.

There were 8 reports of fires, 1 report of a burn injury, and 2 reports of property damage totaling $651,400, according to the recall warning.

How To Identify Recalled Underwater Scooters

The recall involves Sublue Mix Underwater Scooter lithium-ion batteries and replacement batteries.

The recalled SUBLUE Mix underwater scooter batteries are blakc. They were produced between June 2018 and March 2024 (corresponding to unit models: MIXAW01, MIXAB01, MIXSB01).

You can identify the recalled underwater scooters with the name “Sublue” printed on the top and “Whiteshark Mix Underwater Scooter” printed on the side. The recalled batteries are black in color.

They were sold online at www.amazon.com, www.costco.com, www.sublue.com, www.westmarine.com and other websites from June 2018 through February 2025.

What Should I Do?

Sublue is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled underwater scooter batteries (in black) and contact Sublue for a new replacement battery. The new batteries are gray in color.

Do NOT throw the old battery away. Sublue will provide a battery collection kit to return the recalled battery and will provide the replacement battery upon return of the recalled battery.
